Saharan Dust in the Eastern Atlantic
During August we typically see low pressure areas from the Sahel region of North Africa move into the Atlantic Ocean. Some of the tropical waves, as they are known, develop into tropical storms and hurricanes as they move westward into the Atlantic. So far this year it's been quiet.
Over the next week, conditions still don't look that favorable thanks to dust from the Sahara Desert.
Pulses of dust will be blown into the Atlantic over the next 10 days. The dust and dry air that move in tandem will most likely prevent any of these low pressure areas from organizing.
