Tahiti High Pressure 10 years ago

November 17, 2015

High pressure will continue to build across Tahiti over the next week.

This is a sign that the Southern Oscillation Index (SOI), a measurement of El Niño, will continue to rise (currently +11.5).

Long term SOI numbers under -8 are considered to represent El Niño conditions and numbers above +8 are considered to be La Niña. It is likely that the current El Niño has peaked basin-wide, though its effects will linger through the Northern Hemisphere winter.
